The OMCIRON PROJECT A Magic101 Production ** Version 1.4c ** ** 6-26-1998 ** * * Descent II Extended Mission * * **************************************** Primary note: This level set has crashes in the levels sometimes. The reason for these crashes is unknown, and happens at any time with no warning at all, so save game often unless you want to re-start ;+) **************************************** About the Omicron Project: The OMICRON PROJECT is a new creation by a new level builder! With several custom textures and a few custom polymodels, it is pretty sophisticated for a first-time custom level set! Features are: *7 new levels* *5 new, and 28 modified polymodels* *5 new enemies* *21 modified enemies* *4 new robot weapons, not including vertigo weapons* *Modified weapon looks* *No less than 107 custom textures per level* *Full 7 level custom MIDI soundtrack with FM support* *Music debugging to minimize music-caused crashes* *Complete briefing storyline and backgrounds* ********** A SPECIAL FEATURE ********** A new feature to help avoid that D2 problem of 'remembering' custom objects/textures! If you play through the last level, it will RESTORE most all objects and textures to normal! So, if you play another level right then, it should NOT remember >ANY< custom settings, except for three or four of the vertigo robots! **************************************** Late thanks: Special thanks goes out to Dan Wentz for releasing a MIDI>HMP/Q music file converter that saved the music files in this project! Final testers of versions 1.3, 1.4, 1.4a, and 1.4b Aldo 'Fock' Rossi Heiko 'HH-Soft' Herrmann Alexander 'Assassin' Streule Garry Knudson Craven Jay Hoeberechts Patrick 'KGB_FSK' Widner Joe Veldhuis Much thanks all!!! **************************************** CONTACT INFORMATION: EMAIL: Send comments, feedback, or bug reports to: koppes@bright.net with subject of: Omicron Project ON THE WEB: The primary Omicron Project: homepage, http://www.descent2.com/omicron The secondary Omicron Project: page, U.S. mirror Use ONLY if you can not access primary site at a good connection speed please!!! http://www.bright.net/~koppes/omicproj/index.htm ************************* NOTES: You MUST have Descent 2 VERTIGO to be able to properly play The OMICRON PROJECT! Using Low resolution Briefings (Using -nohighres when starting D2) causes a few unwanted effects. But unlike alot of custom briefings, it DOES SUPPORT LOW RES!!! SYSTEM NOTE: This has been extensively tested on a P133 with 32MB RAM with 1 MB VIDEO RAM and NO 3D accelerator card whatsoever and has shown up no serious problems. All I can say is that if you are running anything less than a 166 MHz processor with no graphics accelerator, I GUARANTEE that this set will not give very good performance in some levels! Running it on this system in solo-play mode, I get fair FPS rates most of the time. Multiplay is slower, with Robo-anarchy as the slowest of all! In Omicron, in the BIG room (Main dome area), is where you will probably get the lowest FPS rates. I have gotten as low as 6.50 FPS in multiplay, lowest screen resolution, with all extra views (Guidebot/Rear/Marker View) off, and that is with most unneeded drivers not loaded, and running in total DOS. Otherwise it should run just fine! The Omicron Project: GET READY TO ROCK!!! *************************************************************** LEGAL STUFF: The OMICRON PROJECT v1.4c: DISCLAIMER: I can not guarantee that this will not crash on your specific system! Different systems do different things! I am in no way responsible for any type of data loss that may be caused by a crash of this level set. It has been throughly tested on this system and has produced no serious fatal crashes in this version (1.4c) over a long beta period with alot of testing. If you encounter any crashes, please give me all of the details on what level, where you were, what was happening, and anything else you might consider important so that I can try to make a fix that will prevent that from happening again! Please distribute the archive as you recieved it, with no modifications. You may only disassemble the HOG file for personal use, not for cheating, hacking, etc... You may not modify my settings in your copy, causing any type of unfairness in any type of game, multi or solo play. You may not use any part of the included files, be they an image clip, a custom robot setting, or a room/area in a level, without the written permission of Stephen Koppes. If you wish to obtain permission, send me an email with the reason and an accurate description of the part you wish to duplicate and or copy. If I feel that it is ok, further instructions would follow. As far as I know, none of the MIDI's I used were copyrighted by any individual. Any likeness to any level by anyone is accidental, unless my brother copied parts of levels that I am not been aware of!
