========================================================================== Descent: Levels of the World Entry Form ========================================================================== This completed form is to be included with all entries. Full Name: Todd Scott Belcher WWW: http://cnt.eitc.edu/todd/descent.html Email Address(s): todd@cia.eitc.edu Postal Address: 750 East Elva Idaho Falls, Idaho 83401 Daytime Phone Number: (208)-525-9230 Evening Phone Number: (208)-525-9230 Name of Mission: Martian Gas Mine Date Finished: 9-14-95 Description of Mission: One of our outposts on Mars has been infected by a computer virus. Scientists there were in the process of examining the core memory of one of the captured bots, when they triggered a security program that inserted this virus into all of the vital outpost systems. This virus seems to be the cause of all our recent problems. The group of scientists on the martian colony have sent a distress call requesting rescue procedures be initiated. The group is quite small, and Professor Kulas has told us that half of their group hasn't made it to the emergency bunker. He believes that the robots most likely captured them and are holding them somewhere within the complex. Your mission is to rescue the hostages, cleanse the outpost of any infected bots, then blow the reactor, and make it out alive. This is probably going to be one of the hardest missions we sent you on PTMC Defender, watch your back. We are inserting you only about 8 hours after the infection, so traps will probably be at a minimum, but they have had plenty of time to deploy their numbers in a defensive posture. Opposition will be heavy. Good Luck PTMC Defender. Additional Credits to: Parallax/Interplay, for such a GREAT GAME. Achim Stremplat, creator of Devil (Get those bugs fixed Achim =) Creator of DTX (Sorry I don't have your name, but love the program) Mike Kulas (Finally got the damn thing done Mike) Bearbait Lanny Man Bud Fly Sorcere (Thanks guys for letting me shoot you in the Beta) ========================================================================= Level Info Level #: 1 Single Player: Yes Co-Op: Yes Anarchy: Yes * Construction * Base: New level from scratch Build Time: 70+ Hours Editor(s) used: Devil 1.02 (While waiting for 2.0 =) DTX Known Bugs: None(if you find some, e-mail me please!) May Not Run With...: Multiplayer Beta was done on a 486-SX33 with 8 Meg of Ram, and No sound. Performance was as expected on such a machine, with some slowdown (very little) in the larger levels. Get a fast machine if you don't like the frame rate. Items of Note...: I tried to get DTX to include the two files in the music.zip archive so that you had different music when you played, but it crashed my machine, you can decompress these files in the Descent directory, and you should get the music I wanted you to have during play. I will work on adding them to the level, and if I get them in I will put the new archive up on my homepage. I wanted to make this level do some things that nobody (including Parallax) had done before. With that in mind, look for things like my double size door at the beginning, the hologram projector which the Hostages are using to send their distress call, and Lava Falls in front of doorways. The bots are placed in very stragetic positions, and will make things as tough as they can for the player.Hope you enjoy this level, and watch for an online version of the Briefing to appear on my webpage. Oh, and Parallax/Interplay, get Descent II out asap so I have something else to waste my time with. =) Secrets, and Tactis: (Alert SPOILERS below) Unfortunalty this level is as big as devil would allow me to make it so I wasn't able to include much as far as secrets, but FYI here are a few tidbits that might help you on your Descent. The bots are nasty. Yes, if you aren't careful they will make quite short work of you and your ship. I mostly set them up in a defensive positioning, but there are a couple of Drillers roaming the halls. Also you might want to play the first time through on trainee, so you can see where the baddies are laid out. Then try the harder levels. I have played on hotshot (Normally I play on Ace or Insane!) and easily get my butt kicked unless I watch what I am doing. Also if you don't take the time to clear a path to the exit corridor then your chance of survival once you blow the reactor is slim (On insane you have just enough time to make it if you don't hesitate. I have done it to test it. You should also watch out for the bots that are camoflaged to their surroundings. If you like this level let me know. If you have some good room design ideas let me know as well. The multiplayer version without bots has a very minimum allotment of weapons, but there are no Mega Bombs. Yes there are all the weapons playing solo, but you have to look for them. ========================================================================= BY ENTERING YOUR NAME BELOW AND TRANSMITTING IT TO INTERPLAY (WHICH SHALL HAVE THE SAME LEGAL EFFECT AS YOUR SIGNATURE AND DELIVERY), YOU AGREE TO ABIDE BY THE TERMS OF THE RULES, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, SECTION 6 REGARDING OWNERSHIP OF YOUR SUBMISSION BY INTERPLAY PRODUCTIONS.
