The Manes by Spaz This is a group of levels that I have built for the group of guys known to some as the AtLANta crew. Besides being some of the best Descenter's on the net, they are all super nice guys... so I thought I would sit down and invest a little time in building a group of levels for them to use at their LAN fests. The group consists of many people, too many to name, but a few of them are Kiln, Zeppelin, Jackhammer, Doplgngr, XXtreme, etc. They are responsible in part for some of the designing that was used. I essentially sat down to find out what they did and did not like in levels and what kind of levels were condusive to their playing style (ie. fusion torture). So here is a brief description of what we designed. Level 1 - This is a level I built using a central columned area and some vertical drops that I thought would be really interesting. I also used some thin pass-by walls that I thought would be fun for having little doorway, confusion fights. Level 2 - This level was originally the third level in the group. It is a small dogfighting level that is fast and simple. Level 3 - Originally the second level in the group, this level is very vertically based. I had imagined some wells that would be really fun for some vertical dogfighting. The level is split into three tiers each accessible through the wells... or various ramps, chutes or cubbies. Level 4 - This level is the largest of them all and is fairly balanced between vertical and horizontal. There is a catwalk that runs over the top of the whole level and peers down upon rooms at certain points. There is also a large vertical room with a small bridge spanning the length of the room. Several ideas were kept in mind and are consistant throughout the whole hog. There are very few missiles. These levels were built for VERY skilled LAN dogfighters. Because of the lack of missile breeding on LAN's the missile count was kept very low... not too mention the fact that the emphasis in these levels is on ACTUALLY fighting (imagine that) not the "I only play Total Chaos and fire 5 smarts and run and don't fire my primaries because they scare me" tactic. Most of the levels are also slightly larger than my usual levels because these have been built for 3 to 8 player anarchy or team games. All of the levels should run very smoothly on a p90 or faster. I design and build all my levels on my p90 and they run fine for me. I pushed the edge of the cube count envelope on these levels because my p90 is starting to be laughed at and considered a dinosaur... but nonetheless.... I worry about frame rate more than anything... so they should run fast. I would like to thank Kiln and JackHammer for their patience and understanding. They tolerated all my late night phone calls for feedback and ideas and were integral in the building of these levels... as were Zeppelin and Doplgngr and his kids. Thank you guys. I had a blast building these levels and hope we can build another hog soon. Thanks to the WHOLE AtLANta crew for playing my levels and supporting my level building.... I truly appreciate it. Thanks to all the Kali'ers and Descenters who play my levels.. I build my levels for you guys.... thanks for playing them and for your support as well. And thank you finally to the most beautiful and wonderful girl to have ever graced this planet..... I miss you more than words can begin to express. I love you Jennifer..............
