Our scientist has been up to no good...in fact he's built a "Super Shrinker 2000" and shrunken your Pyro! Now your ship is only about 4 inches in size (no, I didn't mess with the ships, don't worry)! This shrinking machine is a pretty rickety design and doesn't appear too stable. After all, it's wired to a Donkey Kong machine, among other things! You can fly behind, beneath, and over furniture and other junk. You can use the heating system or take a shortcut through the basement to get from room to room. Just remember, being small has its hazards! A rat trap lurks innocently in one corner. If you go for the bait, be very careful! And if you think it's safe hiding in the air ducts and sniping people, think again! Someone may hit the thermostat switch and... If you really feel brave, you can try out the "Super Shrinker 2000". The shrinking machine has three settings. By default it will refuel your ship, but with the touch of a switch you can reap much greater rewards! Unless of course someone else hits the switch again before the machine does its work...that could be disastrous! You thought you were small now...? The last thing you want to do is set the shrinker to actually shrink you even more! I'll let you figure out how the Shrinker works ;) -------------- Level Features -------------- - this level is designed for fast action for 2 - 6 players, and supports Anarchy and Hoard. The scripting adds a few tactical twists to the gameplay. There are a few big dogfighting areas, as well as some tight areas for tunnel rats, and some interesting obstacles. Those with exceptional piloting skills will do well in here. - a rat trap is waiting for careless pilots who get too close...the bait can be tempting! - ventilation system. If you find that people are camping or hiding in the heater ducts that connect some of the rooms, just hit the thermostat and blast them outta there, along with any other junk! - the shrinking machine. By default, it functions as an energy center. It has two other functions though that can either help you or hurt (kill) you. If you use it, just make sure some mischievious pilot isn't lurking about the machine while you're not looking. That could be...bad. - the fish. He can be your friend when things get a little too "hot". ------------ Design notes ------------ schplurg: --------- Level concept, design, construction, custom textures & sound effects, loadscreen. Starkiller: ----------- All scripting (shrinking machine and its special effects, rattrap, ventilation system, and last but not least, the fish), object animation, ideas. - I truly believe that the scripting in this level enhances gameplay, rather than existing just for the sake of having scripting. Starkiller is the man behind the scripting magic and the kick-ASS special effects that you see if you are unfortunate enough to...well you'll see! Every idea I could come up with during our brainstorming sessions, Starkiller seemed to be able to make it possible. I didn't leave anything out of this level because it "couldn't be done". It's all in there, not to mention plenty of Starkiller's own ideas. He kept pushing one particular idea on me and I kept saying that it didn't sound very good, so he did it anyways and showed it to me. I couldn't believe what I saw...it was beautiful! "I'm dying, but it's so beau-tif-u-l..." - I made a lot of custom textures. Noteably, the Donkey Kong arcade game is decorated with the graphics from the original game. I was going for a cartoon-ish look for the lab room. In the T.V. room I made wallpaper, carpeting, wood trim, and most of the book covers. There are over 35 custom textures, and they, along with the scripting, bring this level to life. ---------- Tools Used ---------- - D3Edit - Truespace - Photoshop 6 - OOFEditor - GAMtool - Sound Forge 5.0 -------------- Special Thanks -------------- - Gwar and Otherone for their great work on D3Edit! - Supersheep for designing OOFEditor and helping us figure it out. - Papacat for helping us with OOFEditor too! - A sincere thanks to anyone who has ever visited or contributed to GameEdit.com! Beta Testers: - Nick - Skyalmian ----------- Other Notes ----------- As I mentioned above, I made dozens of textures for this level. You (anyone) may use them in any non-commercial application, such as D3 levels, other games, whatever. I only ask that you mention where you got them. Some are freeware textures that I tweaked to my liking, some I created from scratch. A few of the custom sound effects were obtained online from www.SoundDogs.com, and then mangled and tweaked by me and made useable for the game using Sound Forge, by Sonic Foundry. I actually started building this level in September 1999 for another D3 project. About 2 years later I dusted it off and began working again. At the time, only the TV room was constructed. The idea of flying as a shrunken Pyro in a mad scientists house finally came to me and I started building. Mad Science was officially completed on April 12, 2002. I did not have a solid floorplan of the level when I started...I never do (not necessarily recommended!). Creating the wooden contraption in the shrinker room was a pain in the butt! And yes, I know there are no nails holding it together - I believe the scientist invented his own method of wood adhesion...yaaa that's it! There are a few very dark sections in the vent system. They are small and easily navigable. When was the last time you saw a lamp in a heating duct? We toiled over how to light the ventilation system for weeks I think. The burning pyro was finally added to provide dynamic lighting for most of the vent area in a "realistic" way. I don't use ambient lighting because it sucks. The shrinker. If you are refueling at the shrinker and suddenly find yourself in a psychadelic world for a few moments, you have been shrunk to the atomic level! This is a bad place for a pyro...your ship will take damage until the machine turns off. Look around while you're there, you may find something you can use...if you make it out alive of course. ------------- Bugs / Issues ------------- A few visual glitches have been reported, such as warped or otherwise strange looking textures. Usually switching 3D modes will cure the problem (from OpenGL to Direct3D, etc..). The joystick on the Donkey Kong machine was left bright intentionally. Please report any problems or comments to mike@gameedit.com or starkiller@gameedit.com ----------------- Other D3 Missions ----------------- "Earthshaker 2001 Pro" The return of the infamous Earthshaker Missile! By schplurg and Starkiller. "Solar Ignite" Big indoor/outdoor level with a very hot surface temperature! By Starkiller. Find hundreds of other great levels at www.GameEdit.com ---------- Legal Crap ---------- You have no rights. I have them all. This level is not to be misused or left unsupervised. Author is not responsible for any injury incurred while using this product. If swallowed, induce vomiting immediately - and we'll all stand around and laugh at you. Do not use any part of this level without asking me first, except for the textures...you may use them freely. Just return them when you're finished with them :P Made in the U.S.A.
