Gauntlet 1.0 by [RIP]Shark and [RIP]DwnUndr E-mail: mkhale@carolina.rr.com... and.... dwnundr@naxs.net Filenames: gauntlet10.txt, gauntlet10.mn3, gauntlet10.cfg, norandom.mps Level description: When the DUEL mod started crashing repeatedly when two pilots died simultaneously (since fixed), we decided to create a gauntlet level with NO scripting involved. As this level evolved, it went from having one Gauntlet, to two, then finally to four. With a suggestion from a teammate, two of the Gauntlets became tunnels for the rats, hehe. NOTE to all non-RIP pilots...RIP uses this level for special events. There have been also been two previous levels made for RIP-only. This one turned out so nice for us that we decided to release it to the PXO crowd. If you don't like it, DON'T PLAY IT! Enough said.... MAC compatible! ---------------------- SERVER OPS>>NOTE...This level MUST be hosted with Random weapons respawn OFF!! Otherwise, the Gauntlet weapons areas will NOT give each opponent exactly the same weapons. Worse yet, a player may receive only secondaries and no primaries and vice-versa. Included in this zip file are two additonal files. The gauntlet10.cfg goes in your descent3\ directory and you MUST use this to launch the level. Edit it to add YOUR username and password and server name, etc... The norandom.mps file goes into your descent3\custom\settings directory. The reason you must use the cfg file is it calls the mps file to turn off random respawn. This is the only way to do it for a dedicated server (unless one of the newer launcher programs supports this). To prevent contestants from gathering more than one batch of secondaries, set respawn rate to 30 seconds. This is still fast enough for folks in the Warm-Up room to have fun. The gauntlet10.cfg file points to c:\games\descent3\custom\settings...if you installed to a different drive and/or directory, edit this. Furthermore, this is not a DUEL level, it should be hosted in Anarchy mode. A twist would be to host it in Team Anarchy mode for 2 on 2 fights, etc! Hehe. There is not any scripting involved. ----------------------- All players spawn in one of two Viewing Rooms. Each Viewing Room has two Gauntlets visible and you can easily transit to the other two via the wind tunnels. Please don't shoot lasers or flare anywhere topside because the position packets may lag down the Gauntlet contestants. No weapons are available in the Viewing Rooms. In the ceilings of the Viewing Rooms are the entrances to the Gauntlets (with weapons and one-way walls that close behind you so you can't bring weapons back into the Viewing Room). Two contestants should enter side-by-side weapons rooms, grab stuff, then proceed down the hall and into the Gauntlet. Since server ops should have this level hosted with random weapons respawn OFF, each contestant will get EXACTLY the same weapons load. The only drawback to not having scripting is this...a winner, in order to return to the Viewing Room, must either have enough shields to go in and out of observer mode, leave the game and come back, or suicide. We pondered placing exit tunnels, but decided they could be abused. So, bring an ALTERNATE pilot if you worry about stats! A bonus to this level is the Warm Up Room! From the Viewing Rooms, go down the hole in the floor. As you grab the first set of weapons the wall will close up behind you so you can't return weapons to the Viewing Room. Once down there, kill to your hearts content! When someone challenges you to a Gauntlet, grab some of the ample health and go in and out of observer mode to return topside. Also in the Warm Up Room are all of the RIP logos (almost ALL of them made by [RIP]Lion). These hallowed walls hold the history and tradition of RIP, enjoy! Credits: Thanks to Animal for the concept! Thanks to the whole RIP team for massive beta testing. Thanks to [RIP]Rook for the idea to turn some of the Gauntlets into tunnels. All RIP's thank Lion for the most excellant job he does of creating our custom logos! Thanks to Lion for also providing a few of the custom textures used in here! Restrictions: You may not use this level or any part of it without written permission from Shark and DwnUndr. Created by Mark Hale [RIP]Shark and Lawrence Britt [RIP]DwnUndr .....July 2001.....
