Internet Descent ][ Level Contest This contest was long in comming, it represents the effort of many, I like to think of it as by Descent'rs for Descent'rs. There are hundreds even thousands of levels for both versions but these levels are among the best availible on the Internet today! There are levels that when you slip into them you feel like you just might actually be there. Well my friends the contestants and winners of the IDLC will undoubtedly be the ULTIMATE levels in each of the 4 categories. So if you haven't taken your pyro into these mines then you haven't seen the best! This completed form MUST to be included with all entries. ******************************************************************************* ----ENTRY INFORMATION---- Level File Name...: TAR'HAI.zip Game Version......: Descent2 v1.2 Mission Name......: Tar'hai Mineral Refinery Date Finished.....: May 5th, 1998 ----LEVEL DESCRIPTION---- Here you will enter a GOOD description as in... custom textures..........: yes custom robots............: yes custom music.............: yes custom intro.............: yes and any other info that will help the judges: This is a single play capable level for Descent converted into add-on mission format for Descent2 (v1.2, mandantory). Apart from the above-mentioned items there are several features of interest in it, which I will now call your attention to: ----ADVERTISMENT---- . atmosphere and terrain: may it please Heaven that the player may trace in safety his path through the dismal labyryths of these treacherous and ill-contrived passageways, for unless he is able to bring to his fighting a rigorous logic and spiritual tension at least equal to his distrust, the deadly emanations of this level will dis- solve his soul in a miasma of putrifaction more foul than that of even the tainted sepulchres of degenerate Egypt. Other features include: . exit track . plasma webs . hidden weaponry . starting room . docking energy centers . working exit corridor . BS3-78 System 3 reactor The main structure houses all this (plus certain features exclusive to D2: cellfarms, switches, boss-clones, etc.) and has in addition a con- struction similiar in mechanics to that the human heart, with various Chambers of Death serving as ventricle and atrium, and illusionary walls as valves. The reason for this being on account of the unpre- dictable, shark-like behavour of robots in D2, which regardless of their setting gravitate toward violence. The ultimate result is that the player, unbeknownst to him/herself, passes through an intricate net of triggers activating/deactivating various disappearing/reap- pearing walls, between which robots, in migrating towards the action, become caught, allowing for unmatched, unexpected fighting with each new game. In the area of internal robot modification great pains have been taken, but this too the player will not find immeadiately ap- pearant, as it has been for the most part an attempt to restore some semblance of respect for the robots of Descent 1 -the poetry of whose violence I have endeavoured to recreate throughout the vast extent of the level, which takes for it's theme a single excavation lying at an exceeding depth beneath the surface of a desolate moon or planetoid, seething with subterranean terrors.
