The Level Obscurus. Mission Name: Obscurus Included files: Obscurus.hog = Obscurus.rl2, Arbor.rl2, Screen0 - 9, screen0b - 9b, Obscurus.txb, Obscurus.pog Obscurus.txt Obscurus.mn2 Data: Obscurus: cubes = 900, things = 17, walls = 175 Data: Arbor: cubes = 818, things = 150, walls = 136 *** Notice!! *** The pictures and story ideas were taken from the Cyan inc. and all credit should be given towards them. Anything else in this level besides this should be credited toward parallax and interplay. This is for personal use only, in other words don't do anything illegal with it. --------------------------------------Back Ground-------------------------------------------- This level took me quite awhile (over two weeks) to make since I don't have much time anymore to make them. I was pretty disappointed in the level at first because the first attempt to make this level I had close to 3000 cubes, which of course crashed D2. Second I had 300 walls which really blew it up. I had to remove a lot of my ideas and the unique hallways and rooms in order to decrease the amount of them. Obscurus and Arbor are made for single player mode. They can't support flag or hoard since there are no goals. Coop is not playable since there are no robots in Obscurus and Arbor is a secret level. Robo goes along with this. Team anarchy and anarchy are not recommended in this level since you might never find the other person in the Lutum Age. The quizzes in this level might be fairly easy(or impossible) since I couldn't do much with them. In D2 it is limited on how you can make someone think and not make it impossible. I tried to put some clues up on the walls on how to solve them, but I really had no clue at what to do so if you don't get it, don't worry. Now, your probably wondering where I got such idiotic names from. Well, they are from Latin. I picked the word "Obscurus" because it means "dark" or "gloomy", which resembles the word "Mist", but doesn't exactly mean it. The others are.. Name Translation English word Calor = "Heat" (calories) Lutum = "Mud" Ros = "Dew" Stiria= "Icicle" Nihil = "Nothing" (Annihilate) Arbor = "Tree" (Arbor Day you know..) All of them resemble the level. The earth stage is mud, the fire age is heat the water age is dew, the ice stage is icicle, the jungle stage is tree, and Nihil is nothing since you never actually get to explore Nihil in the game play. The only time your in Nihil is at the end of the story. I used the devil editor for the cubes, robots, textures, and things placement and the Descent Mission builder 2 for the texture edit/alignment and to edit some of the robots. Gotta thank Phang for teaching me how to make the secret portal to work and Picasso for teaching me how to use the briefing. Thanks should also be given towards Wellie and Dr. Gonzo for testing the level while under construction. --------------------------------------------Story---------------------------------------------- It has been years since you came back from Myst. Much has changed in your life since then. You forget about Myst and the book. You come to think of it as your imagination. A childhood fantasy, or a weird dream. When you first came back, people thought you were crazy, because you talked so much about your encounter with a book that took you to a place called Myst. You were brought up to think of it as a Dream. One day, you hear a big storm coming. You remember that you left one of the attic windows open when you went to get a box yesterday afternoon. Even though there isn't much of value in your attic, you get up and head towards the attic. It was when you were in the attic did you realize that the so called "dream" was true. As you crawl yourself through the boxes, you notice a small oak desk. You move your lamp over the desk and notice a book with the initials "Myst". The book! Here it is... All along. In the attic. You remember now, when the book fell from the sky many years ago, you brought it up here to look at. Being in all weird writing you think of it as no value and are about to throw it away when you see a picture. One picture in the whole book. You turn pale when you see the image moving. It starts to reveal this weird island. With fear and amazement you touch the image. You are sucked into the blackness of the book. You begin falling. You don't know what has happened. There is a light above you, but soon disappears into nothing. You keep falling like there is no end, till at last you hit the ground. You arrive on a dock, the dock in the picture. Your first thought is.. I'm dreaming, but soon you discard that thought and accept the fact that you are in a different world, a different.. story. After you find Atrus, he lets you have access to all the ages in Myst. You explore them again and again, searching for.. something, yet you don't know what. It seems like years have gone by, but time doesn't matter in this age. You have given up hope on returning to your world. As you explore the Myst, you accidentally fall into a hole. You are once again sucked into blackness. Falling again, but this time.. to your world. You wake up on the attic floor. You sit there like your lost. Then you place the book on the small desk next to you and walk out of the attic. Everything about Myst comes back into your mind. You want to touch the image and return to the world of Myst, but once you do how will you find a way back? Will you be so lucky as to fall into another hole? You watch the picture rotate like you did the first time. You slowly place your palm over it. You step on the dock of Myst and look around. Nothing, nothing has changed at all. Everything is the same. You hear the wind and waves, but no sounds of living things. You turn away and start your way up the stairs to see Atrus. You find the linking book to D'ni with no difficulty since you already know this world by heart. As usual Atrus is still writing. You wonder what book he is writing, and why it is so important. Maybe later you will find out. He sees you and greets you. He looks happy to see that your back, but at the same time you see worry. He begins to talk about Obscurus. Obscurus is a world which has 6 ages in it. Lutum, the earth age, Ros, the water age, Stiria, the ice age, Calor, the fire age, Arbor, the jungle age and Nihil, the age of nothing. Actually Nihil used to be second biggest to Arbor untill the two had a great battle and Nihil was almost completely destroyed. Arbor has always been the dominant age in Obscurus. The reason for this is because it has all the resources. It has water, food, and oxygen. It has a climate fit for humans and is the only age that has other species rather than humans. When the population began growing, the need for food became greater. The Arborians needed more people on agriculture rather than industry. So they researched robotics. The first robot was made to carry an object from one place to another. Eventually they were able to build robots that could operate tools and last to control all military and defensive systems. This is where they made a mistake. When entering data into the M&D unit, they put in the wrong code. This caused the robot to intercept the command as "destroy" and not "protect" the Obscurian population. Since it was highly intelligent it created an army little by little, and by the time it was creating large armies of high tech robots the PTMC couldn't stop them. They fought with the strongest weapon and defensive unit that existed on Obscurus. The Pyro. The battle between the two lasted for two decades, until all the PTMC were dead. The last remaining Arborians informed the other ages of the terrible mistake that has begun in Arbor. They decided to move to Nihil. To ensure safety they destroyed the portal leading to Nihil. Years have went by.. The robots have multiplied by the hundreds. Almost all the Arbor age is filled with them. They began sending scouts out to search for other worlds they could dominate over. They discovered all of them, but couldn't seem to activate the 6th one. They began testing things on it. Trying to repair it to its functional use. They succeeded. Little by little the glow of the portal came back. Atrus realizing this knows that time is growing short. He must do something... Then you walk in..
