Chasm (v1.0) by Brian Wilcox (aka Otherone) otherone@uswest.net April-June 2000 I had 2 main goals in designing the level. I think I succeeded and hope you agree. - Build a nice looking level w/ unique architecture that is fun to play and has reasonable framerates. - Provide a weapons balance that promotes nice long drawn-out fights rather than lots of sniping and boating: - No Mass Driver! At least not one that you can get :) - Very few homing weapons (1 Mega, 2 homers, 1 guided 4-pack) - Few secondaries overall (2 frags, 1 impact, 1 napalm, some concs) - Lots 'o AB coolers. - No Microwave to cut down on the BP spray-n-pray factor. This level supports Anarchy and Team Anarchy only. The level is designed to be played by about 6 players, but (believe it or not) is actually small enough for a pretty fun 1 on 1. Known bugs: - The edge of the suspended floor in the upper ring will disappear when viewed from certain angles. This appears to be some weird engine issue and I was unable to fix it w/out sacrificing the architecture. - The transparent water textures *may* be rendered opaque at some angles in online play. This is a bug that I have only been able to reproduce when playing on-line on PXO. Thanks to Suncho for his work on the loading screen and his many suggestions. I think he spent more time thinking about the level than I did. Thanks to Genghis, Wave, Gonzo, Crack, Suncho, Ma$e, and everyone else who helped test the level. Also, a special thanks to Aldel for his fix to D3Edit's "black lines at the edges of faces" lighting problem w/out which the level would never have been finished. And of course, thanks to Outrage for making D3 in the first place, Gwar for writing the level editor, and Outrage again for releasing the source code to the editor. Enjoy. ------------------------------------------------------- Copyright 2000 Brian "Otherone" Wilcox.
