Title : Flag Heaven Date Finished : Aug 9, 1996 Author : Various Original Authors + Steve Valliere (svalli@digital.net) Jim Buckeyne Description : This is a set of six small-medium sized levels which are (in our humble opinions) great for four player Capture the Flag play. All of these levels were originally DESCENT 1 levels which we missed playing. Although some of the levels have them, we usually disable the ammo racks to cut down on the 'one player has everything' syndrome. We also frequently turn off the smart mines to cut down on 'cheap' kills. There are no Invulnerabilities nor EarthShakers, but I think everything else is represented, somewhere. These levels HAVE NOT been tested with MORE THAN 4 players. None of our group has KALI and we only have four players (and machines, that we're allowed to use, anyway) in the office. Propriety : The original author of Razor Starship and Viper Station has allowed us to update and modify his levels. None of the other levels had any restrictions that we could find. ========================================================================== Level # : 1 Name : Razor Starship Single Player : If you want, but there's no monsters Co-Op : Nah, what's the point? Anarchy : Yes Capture the Flag : Yes Notes : We decided to start small, with a tight level and few weapons. However, all of the guns are Gauss cannons, so no single player can get every- thing. There's one afterburner and some missles. Level # : 2 Name : Badness Single Player : If you want, but there's no monsters Co-Op : Nah, what's the point? Anarchy : Yes Capture the Flag : Yes Notes : No significant changes from the original, other than some new weapons and powerups. Level # : 3 Name : Eye Single Player : If you want, but there's no monsters Co-Op : Nah, what's the point? Anarchy : Yes Capture the Flag : Yes Notes : We expanded the hidey hole upstairs from the main corridor (where the mega bomb was hidden) into a big room with three exits, one to each energy tunnel and one looping tunnel to the reactor room. Level # : 4 Name : Viper Station Single Player : If you want, but there's no monsters Co-Op : Nah, what's the point? Anarchy : Yes Capture the Flag : Yes Notes : We added an extra tunnel from the back of the energy pod up to the 'main' room and two hidden cubes (behind the lights over the pair of tunnels leaving the bottom of the 'main' room) which are great to fire guided missiles from. Level # : 5 Name : Eye 2 Single Player : If you want, but there's no monsters Co-Op : Nah, what's the point? Anarchy : Yes Capture the Flag : Yes Notes : No structural changes, just added some of the D2 weapons. Level # : 6 Name : Rough Ridin' Single Player : If you want, but there're very few monsters Co-Op : Nah, what's the point? Anarchy : Yes Capture the Flag : Yes Notes : We added a reactor (at the end of a tunnel in the lava room), an extra exit from the lava room which connects to the 'S' tunnel through the main room and a tunnel from the back of the redrock area to the 'U' tunnel which goes over the room with the exit in it. I also made the area inside the cage in the main room an energy station, so you _can_ refuel, but everyone can see you from all six sides! Other Notes : Co-op play may work in some of the levels, but we've never tested it and there're only a couple of robots (on level 6, we were experimenting) anyway. * Construction * Build Time : Roughly 1-2 hours / level (I'm a DEVIL neophyte) Editor(s) used : Devil 2.1g+ (modified by Jon Barnhart aka Kilroy, jon@inmind.com) Known Bugs : None * Copyright / Permissions * As far as its worth...these levels may be used as a base for new levels and all that other fun stuff, assuming none of the original authors disagree. The stuff we added is free for anyone who wants it. For those people assembling pre-packaged DESCENT 2 Level Collections, you MUST get permission before including these levels on your disk. For those people maintaining anonymous ftp sites and web pages dedicated to the free exchange of DESCENT and DESCENT 2 levels, THANK YOU! Also, you're completely welcome to make this set available on your sites. Have fun!! =========================================================================== The following are the TXT files which were attached to the levels when I downloaded them... -- Razor.Txt -------------------------------------------------------------- this zip file had no description file included. if you have a description file that belongs with it, please forward it to ftp.PooterMan.com -- Badness.Txt ------------------------------------------------------------ this zip file had no description file included. if you have a description file that belongs with it, please forward it to ftp.PooterMan.com -- Eye1D1.Txt ------------------------------------------------------------- This is a anarchy level created for Descent. This level can only be used with the registered version of Descent. This level design was created in whole by Sean Mayock, and the author recognizes that all aspects of this game save the layout are owned if full to Parallax and Interplay. This file must be included in any distribution of this level or any of the EYE level series. I can be reached through The Needful Things bbs in Charlotte NC. -- Viper.Txt -------------------------------------------------------------- Level Name: Viper Station Level Type: Anarchy (Set to Normal for Exploration by Default) Created: May 1995 Creator: Luke Schneider (Vizor) Levels: 1 Comments: This is my first full level using Devil. I used 1.0b for almost almost all of the level except for a few minor revisions. No opening doors are in this level because Devil doesn't create them correctly and they tend to become shoot through textures. I originally had designed this level as a cave/mine, but after completing it I felt that it was not good enough to release. So I redid every single texture and added quite a few more cubes to give the player an enhanced experience. The reactor room is the latest addition...originally I had it sitting in a cube right next to the main lower hallway. I tried to put enough weapons so that one player would be well armed if he managed to get them all. But no invincibilities are included. They seem to take away from the experience of blowing someone away in my opinion. If you want to see the original levels (called scorpion and spider) look on ftp.netcom.com in /pub/kk/kkitty/descent/levels (I think that's it). This is the FINAL version...nothing else will ever be changed (Ya right). If you're thinking about changing the level...don't. Then you'd have to send it to everyone who you wanted to play and eventually there'd be ten different versions floating around (technically there are five already counting this one). However, if you find the time to drastically change it so that it is actually different (single player or many more rooms), please do and make sure to get me a copy too. You can make macros from my rooms, just give a little credit if you spread it around. Speaking of credit... HUGE thanks go out to Spydir (irc nick) for the invaluable answers to my stupid questions and suggesting the reactor room along with just allowing this to happen by proving that a good level can be made with Devil. If he didn't make any good levels, I would have never made this. Also thanks to KamiKitty for pointing out how to change the music in Descent...I would have included a song in the .HOG file but as of this writing no program allows .HMP files to be included in a .HOG. Sorry KK. Have fun with this and tell me what I should do better with my next one. (Has only one robot and no reactor) Notes: This one adds a new twist.... shoot while bobbing up and down! The exit door is on a switch... you gotta be quick and fly straight to make it out! Has a couple of hidden ambush hiding places.
