level name: Alhambra author: Dietfrid Mali e-mail: dietfrid.mali@ptv.de type: solo, anarchy, robo anarchy, flag, hoard editor: DMB2 version: 1.2 date: 1 aug 1997 changes: 17 jul 97: Aligned textures. 1 aug 97: Added lights and textures. Added and adjusted robots. Description =========== Alhambra is my second level. I created it partially as kind of an architectural study because I had some ideas and wanted to see what they would look like, so I think this level is something different. What really fascinates me are huge rooms, so Alhambra contains some. The disadvantage of these and of their complex structure is that you will need a fast machine to have fun playing this level (a good 3D graphics accelerator is essential). Also, some (most?) of the textures I used don't look particularly good on a machine without a 3D video processor doing some filtering on the textures. Alhambra is a spanish expression meaning "Red Fortress". The Alhambra is a beautifully constructed moorish fortress in Madrid. It had been built during the time when Spain had been conquered by Arab armies in the early middle ages. This level borrowed its name from the Alhambra because parts of it reminded me of the architecture found there - arcs like in the passages leading to the Fountain Hall, wells as in the Well Room, and the red rock found in the level's Pyramid Room. Also the Cathedral with its gigantic pillars reminded me of Spain, which is a stronghold of catholicism (I have nothing for or against catholics, by the way). Maybe the Spiral Hall will remind you of the Inquisition's torture chambers giving you some new ideas of how to deal with your opponents there ... Weapons ======= Since you can prohibit any power up from multi player games, I added lots of (almost) everything to the level. Since I think that some weapons are rather boring, you will NOT find every weapon in this level. (Just my opinion. But who would want concussion missiles if he can have mercuries - at least not me. ;-)) Known Problems ============== Sometimes, some walls might not be displayed at certain angles of view (e.g. above the arc leading to the fountain). I tried everything to fix this, but did not succeed. You can't shoot or fly through these textures though. Probably this is a problem of Descent's graphics engine (too many optimizations). I think one can live with that. You will hardly notice most of these effects it when in play anyway. So far. The following section is because this level is for everybody's fun and not for somebody to make money with my work. Don't take it personal.
