D2-THIRD STRIKE! A LEVEL-BY-LEVEL GUIDE THIRD STRIKE IS (WITH ONE EXCEPTION) A COMBINATION OF DESCENT I[ LEVELS I CREATED OR MODIFIED WITH DMB2. FOLLOWING IS A LEVEL BY LEVEL OVERVIEW. ALL THE LEVELS ARE SOLO-MODE AND ARE NOT CO-OP, MULTI, OR ANARCHY MODE SUPPORTED. THE FULL VERSION OF DESCENT I[ IS REQUIRED. A PERSONAL NOTE: AFTER VIEWING VARIOUS FAQ'S AND NEWSGROUPS, I SEEM TO BE ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY ENJOY TRACKING DOWN THE THIEF AND TAKING HIM OUT. AS A RESULT, IT PLAYS A ROLE IN VARIOUS STYLES THROUGHOUT THE MISSION. MOST OF THE TIME, HE JUST NEEDS A FEW SHOTS TO KILL HIM BUT NOT ALWAYS. I ALSO MADE MOST OF THESE RATHER DARK OR DEPENDENT ON LIGHTS THAT CAN BE SHOT OUT. I FIGURED THAT, THESE ARE MINES UNDERGROUND WHERE THE SUN ON THEIR WORLD NEVER SHINES. SO... PREPARE FOR DESCENT....... LEVEL 1: RYAN'S REALM THIS ONE CAME AS A RESULT OF ME BUILDING A LEVEL EXPRESSLY FOR MY ELDEST SON TO LEARN TO PLAY ON HIS OWN. THEIVES PRISON MIGHT BE BREACHED IF BATTLE BECOMES TOO DESPARATE. LEVEL 2: LOVECRAFT'S LAIR THIS ONE I SET OUT TO MAKE PARTICULARLY WEIRD. ILLUSIONS AND GHOSTS ABOUND, WITH EVEN RATS IN THE WALLS OF ONE ROOM. LOTS OF SURPRISES AND MANY DANGERS. THE ROOM WITH RATS CAME PASTED FROM A LEVEL CALLED 'WAR PIGS' ON THE DESCENT PAGE. THE OBELISK WAS TOO COOL TO PASS UP. LEVEL 2 SECRET: COD IF YOU HAVE D1 LEVELS OF THE WORLD, THEN YOU'VE ALREADY PLAYED THIS ONE. i JUST MADE IT A SECRET TO BONE UP ON SUPPLIES. I HAD TO TAKE OUT THE RED KEY (IN FACT ALL KEYS ON ALL SECRET LEVELS) OR ELSE IT MESSES UP THE GAMING SEQUENCE ON THE REGULAR LEVEL UPON RETURN. LEVEL 3: THE PIT STRIGHTFORWARD LEVEL WITH A FEW PARTICULARS. THE HALL OF MIRRORS HOLDS A CACHE OF WEAPONRY AND A WORLD OF DANGER. LEVEL 4: THE PERIL OF THE PODS I REMEMBER PLAYING DTLOW AND WONDERING WHAT THESE DAMN RED TRIANGLES WERE AND WHY. ON THIS LEVEL, THEY CAN CONTAIN KEYS, WEAPONS, OR A FLEET OF MECHS. LEVEL 5: THE ABYSS MY LAST LEVEL. A REAL PAIN IN THE ASS ACCORDING TO MY WIFE. NOT MUCH IN THE WAY OF FINDING YOUR WAY; ITS JUST GETTING THERE. LEVEL 5 SECRET: HARDCASE HAVEN ANOTHER P.I.T.A., THIS TIME FOR EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY. YOU MUST BLOW THE REACTOR FIRST BEFORE PROCEEDING. HARD ENOUGH ON LOW SKILL LEVELS. WELL NIGH IMPOSSIBLE HIGHER UP. I MADE IT THROUGH (BARELY) ON HOTSHOT. UNLESS YOU'RE FEELING COCKY, YOU MAY WANT TO JETTISON YOUR FAVORITE WEAPS BEFORE EMBARKING ON THIS ONE. YOU WILL MEET RESISTANCE EVERY STEP OF THE WAY ON THIS ONE. LEVEL 6: LUNAR OUTPOST SAMMY DESCENTOPHILES WILL RECOGNIZE THE LAYOUT AS THE VERY FIRST LEVEL ON DESCENT 1. THERE'S A FEW ADDED TUNNELS, IT NOW REQUIRES ALL THREE KEYS. THERE'S MORE HOSTAGES, CHANGED OR ADDED MECHS, AND OF COURSE, THE TEXTURE PAYING HOMMAGE TO MY HYPERACTIVE DOG. LEVEL 7: THIEVES PARADISE ONCE AGAIN THE LAYOUT CAME FROM A DESCENT 1 LEVEL, BUT THAT IS ALMOST THE ONLY THING. LOTS OF ADDITIONS HERE. THE THIEVES ARE PARTICULARLY CLINGY. WATCH FOR THE 'BOSS-THIEF' IN THE YELLOW ROOM. LEVEL 8: THEM BONES THE VERY FIRST LEVEL I MADE WITH DMB. IN FACT, THE INSTRUCTIONS WITH THE PRINTED OUT TUTORIAL WITH DMB WALK YOU THRU THE BASICS OF THIS LEVEL. ALTHOUGH OF COURSE, IT HAS BECOME SOMEWHAT DIFFERENT IN LOOK, FEEL, AND DIFFICULTY. LEVEL 8 SECRET: RYANS SECRET SAME AS LEVEL 1, EXCEPT WITH LOTS OF CHANGES. AGAIN BEWARE THE THEIVES PRISON, OR YOU'LL BE VERY BUSY. LEVEL 9: WATERWORLD THIS ONE REQUIRES A LOT OF MEMORY SINCE THERE'S SO MUCH GOING ON. I ORIGINALLY HAD MOVING CLOUDS IN THE SKY AND LOTS MORE OMEGAS, BUT THE GAME KEPT HANGING UP. INSPIRED BY THE MOVIE AND THE FOLLOWING LEVEL. LEVEL 10: THE PLANET OF DOCTOR MOREAU AN OUTSTANDING LEVEL I FOUND ON A DESCENT PAGE. IT ILLUSTRATES EVERYTHING THE GAME AND THE MISSION BUILDER CAN DO. NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS. VERY PERILOUS. MY ONLY REGRET IS THAT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO STUMBLE UPON ANY EASY WAYS TO PUT IN BRIEFINGS (LIKE THE CREATORS OF PHOBOS), OR TO MAKE THE EXIT MOVIES PLAY AFTER EACH LEVEL.
